In my entire life I had never thought of juicing until my son-in-law gave me a DVD entitled, “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead,” by Joe Cross (good thing I love my son-in-law). Within days of watching that film my husband and I started juicing. It was that convincing. Now I’m not saying my husband loved it but he stuck with it. We dropped the weight off and felt better than we had in a long time. I on the other hand loved it. It was like my body was craving it. Within a week I was sleeping all night and joint pain was subsiding. Let me just tell you it is worth a shot.
Juicing is getting more and more popular today than when we first started. Now there are juice cafe’s in almost every major city. Be careful about the bottled juices in the grocery stores they are not nearly as healthy as the juice cafes that make them up fresh. But juicing at home is the best way to go. I love making juice and sharing with my friends. Several of them are on the journey with me. Now we get off of it from time to time but we always come back to it because it makes you feel so good. My husband and I are doing a juice fast as I am writing this blog.
Juicers can be expensive, but start with what you have or can afford. I started out with a used Mr. Coffee juicer (yes they made them) that my parents gave me (just don’t juice beets, long story). But when it was my birthday I told my family no gifts just pool your money so I can buy a good juicer. (Im not afraid to ask!) With a coupon at Bed, Bath, and Beyond I purchased an Omega 600 juicer with my birthday money and gift certificates and I have been blessed ever since.
There are hundreds of recipes but keep it simple when you are first starting. I started with carrots. Try to get California carrots, they are sweeter. You will be surprised at how delicious and creamy it tastes. My next favorite is a mixture of 3 carrots, 1/2 beet, handful of parsley, 1/2 cucumber, and 1/2 apple. Again, it is delicious. Then start experimenting or go online to get recipes. If you’re trying to lose weight don’t juice a lot of fruit. I just add one fruit to my vegetable juices. With all this said, please always ask your physician before you start any new food program or diet.
If you have never tried juicing, give it a try. If you have slacked off, jump back in. You will be glad you did! I also encourage you to get the DVD I mentioned above at Bed, Bath, and Beyond or you can purchase it online. Happy Juicing!
Blessings, Deborah
